DALLAS — Jeffrey Payne, International Mr. Leather 2009 and owner of the Dallas Eagle, announced his candidacy for Texas governor on Friday, July 14.
The announcement was made in the Dallas Voice, the Texas city’s gay newspaper.
“Texas needs a governor who believes in real Texas valies, like integrity, honesty, freedom and independence,” Payne told the newspaper in a statement. “It’s time we stopped wasting our time and money on silly legislation and start investing our time finding ways to help Texans, their families and businesses prosper.”
He also called the current Texas governor, Republican Greg Abbot, a “disaster for Texans.”
Jeffrey owns the Dallas Eagle, the International LeatherSir/boy and International Community Bootblack contests and a court reporting business. As Mr. Texas Leather 2009, he won International Mr. Leather. Jeffrey did not hide his involvement with the leather community in his announcement, saying it had given him a platform to promote fundraising events.
